Irish Research at Ottawa Branch
Researching your Irish ancestors? Ottawa Branch has lots of resources for you!
Visit the Ottawa Branch Library for an extensive collection of Irish genealogy resources. Highlights include:
- Journals: many issues of Irish genealogy journals (e.g. North Irish Roots 1984-2017)
- Books covering the geography and history of Ireland, the Famine, Irish Palatines, migration, and economic life
- Books by some of your favourite authors, including BIFHSGO Conference speakers John Grenham and William Roulston, and some of your favourite publishers (e.g. almost 100 items published by the Ulster Historical Foundation)
- County research guides for a number of Ireland’s counties, including many of the Flyleaf Press series
You can search the Library’s online catalogue from home, by title, author, or topic keyword (e.g. County Down; Ireland migration). Better yet, come in and browse the shelves! The Ottawa Branch Library is located inside the reading room at the City of Ottawa Central Archives, 100 Tallwood Dr. The reading room is open Tuesday-Friday 9:00-4:00, Saturday 10:00-5:00. Ottawa Branch volunteers are available in the library to help you find resources in the collection. Or email us anytime at [email protected]
Want to talk to other Irish researchers? Discuss your research in person at the Irish Research Group, which meets every fourth Tuesday of the month at 7:00 pm at the McNabb Community Centre. Round Table discussion about how and where to search your Irish roots, new discoveries, brick walls, and more. Everyone is welcome!
