Good afternoon, I am looking for information on the Jordan family who settled in Lanark County around 1845; they immigrated from County Longford, Ireland. Parent’s names were William Jordan & Mary Jane Galen (Gilling). Their three children Margaret 1846; Elizabeth 1847; Johnston 1851 were born in the Pakenham area before moving to Clarke Twp., Durham County, Ontario. Their marriage was in 1845 • [National Archive of Ireland research guide to Church of Ireland (Anglican) parish registers Religion Church of England.] William’s father was Thomas Jordan from County Longford, Ireland. Thank you for your help,

Good afternoon,
Your query concerning the William and Mary Jane (neé Galen/Gilling) Jordan family of Pakenham and Durham Co., Ontario has come to me for reply.
The volunteers at Ottawa Branch – Ontario Ancestors of the Ontario Genealogical Society (OGS) are not able to do research for you but will make suggestions to help you further your own. In pre-Covid-19 times, researchers who were able to come into the Ottawa Archives in person to access the collection could be assisted by Ottawa Branch volunteers at most times, however presently not until January 2021.
Hopefully some of the following suggestions may lead you to some useful information:
• Ottawa Branch’s online catalogue: https://ottawa.ogs.on.ca/researching/indexes/library-catalog/
Volunteers work to upload the names found in documents in the Ottawa collection to contribute to the The Ontario Names Index (TONI)
• TONI (The Ontario Names Index): https://ogs.on.ca/databases/toni/
TONI is a finding aid to all Ontario branch’s collections to help researchers find people they are researching, with access information.
• Lanark County Genealogy Society: https://lanarkgenealogy.com/lcgs-online-resource-library/
Historical societies often have unique documents very specific to their local area and unavailable elsewhere.
• Durham County Regional Branch (OGS): https://durham.ogs.on.ca/
The Durham Branch will have documents most pertinent to their region.
• Bytown or Bust: http://bytown.net/pakenham.htm
For general background on how Pakenham, Ontario was developed and some searchable names and locations.
• Library and Archives Canada: https://www.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/freelance-researchers/Pages/freelance-researchers.aspx
Listing of genealogical researchers for hire and their area of specialty.
Please feel free to contact us again, if we can be of further assistance and good luck with your research.
Sincerely,
Margaret Patenaude
