Title: Indigenous Enfranchisement Records 1880- 1970 in Canadian Orders in Council

Speaker: Joanna Crandell

Details: The names of Indigenous people enfranchised voluntarily and involuntarily by Orders in Council have been indexed and put online to help Canadians trace Indigenous ancestry. The presentation will include an explanation of Indigenous enfranchisement and more details about the information shown on the website at http://www.orderincouncillists.com/205496177.html . We will also discuss the challenges accessing these records from 1970 to 1985, how enfranchisement records can be an access point to Indigenous files held by Library and Archives Canada, and how to search for other Orders in Council.
