John E Bullard1,2

M, b. between June 1839 and June 1840, d. 25 June 1876
Relationship
4th great-grandson of Roger Billings
John E Bullard was born between June 1839 and June 1840 at Massachusetts, USA.3,4,5 He was the son of Charles Bullard and Elizabeth Paul.6,1,7 John E Bullard was listed in the household of Charles Bullard in the 1850 US Federal Census for Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, USA.8 John E Bullard was listed in the household of Charles Bullard in the 1860 US Federal Census for Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, USA.9 John E Bullard was a clerk at Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, USA, on 20 June 1860.7 John or John E Bullard, a clerk from Boston, born about 1838/1839 served a series of military engagements starting 13 Sep 1861 with Company F, Massachusetts 24th Infantry Regiment. He mustered out on 13 Sep 1864. From 24 Aug 1870 to 24 Aug 1875, John E Bullard served with the 5th Artillery; from 26 Apr 1876 to 10 Mar 1880 with the 1st Artillery; 3 Jan 1881 to 2 Jan 1886 with the 14th Infantry and finally, also with the 14th Infantry from 20 Jan 1886 to 23 Dec 1887 when he was discharged with a disability at Fort Leavenworth KS. The Registers of Enlistments after the Civil War describe the man as hazel eyes, black hair, light complexion and 5'8" in height; his previous occupation was listed as either clerk or soldier and his birthplace as Boston MA. This leads me to believe that it was the same man. Whether he was the son of Charles Bullard and Elizabeth Paul is still debatable.10 He was supposedly "killed in Custer Massacre" but is not listed by that name in the list of casualties at http://www007.upp.so-net.ne.jp/togo/human/data/little.html.6 He may be the man who was listed as a boarder with the household of John C. Jones in the 1880 US Federal Census for Midland, Lancaster County, Nebraska, USA.11 John E Bullard may have been a bookkeeper on 1 June 1880 at Midland, Lancaster County, Nebraska, USA.11 He may be the Pvt John E Bullard who died on 5 November 189312 and was buried at US Soldiers' and Airmen's Home National Cemetery, Washington, District of Columbia, USA.12
