Joseph Napoleon Dubarry IV1

Joseph Napoleon Dubarry IV was born on 30 September 1916.2,1,3 He married Elizabeth Gardner, daughter of Kenneth Gardner and Harriet Richards Gill, on 22 June 1940.3,1 Joseph Napoleon Dubarry IV died on 7 May 1993 at Bryn Mawr, Delaware County, Pennsylvania, USA, at age 76.2,1 Princeton Alumni Weekly:

ON MAY 7, 1993, Joe died after a long and confining illness at his home in Bryn Mawr, Penn. Son of Joseph N. DuBarry '14, Joe came to Princeton from St. Paul's School and roomed throughout with Fitzhugh Green. Joe was involved with a host of projects, including WhigClio, Orange Key, and THE DAILY PRINCETONIAN, and was V.P. of Colonial Club. After graduating with honors and completing Harvard Law School, he joined the State Dept., where he managed wartime rubber resources.

In 1946, Joe joined the Philadelphia law firm of Montgomery, McCracken, Walker and Rhoads, specializing in orphans' court and tax work, where he became a partner. He retired in 1976.

Joe was widely known and respected for his voluntary work with the Defender Assn. of Philadelphia. He served on the board of the Wistar Inst. for 27 years and was cofounder of the Bryn Mawr Civic Assn. His other interests included golf, tennis, and smallboat sailing.

The class extends its deepest sympathy to his widow, the former Elizabeth Gardner; to three daughters, Elizabeth Ernst, Barbara Erdman, and Suzanne Sellers; and to son Joseph V. Joe's many friends will remember him for his energy, quick wit, and love of Princeton. We have indeed lost another valued classmate.
