The Irish Research Group meets on the 4th Tuesday of the month (except December and June to August) to discuss all aspects of Irish genealogy and Irish family history:  archives, books, databases, websites, courses, conferences, DNA, etc.  Meetings are held in Conference Room C, McNabb Community Centre, 180 Percy Street, Ottawa at 7 p.m – 9 p.m.  Attendees discuss the progress they are making in their own research or ask the group for strategies in overcoming brick walls.  From time to time, guest speakers are invited to present on the life of Irish immigrants to Canada or on specific aspects of Irish genealogy.

Meetings are open to the public free of charge.

The guest speaker at the January meeting of the Irish Research Group will be Michael McBane who will be giving a presentation on his book:  Bytown 1847:  Elisabeth Bruyère and the Irish Famine Refugees.  His presentation will be followed by a discussion and those present will have the opportunity to purchase his book.  The meeting is in person only and will take place on Tuesday January 24th at 7 pm in Meeting Room C of the McNabb Community Centre, 180 Percy Street Ottawa.  As always, everyone is welcome to attend so feel free to bring a friend.

Note the earlier start time because the Community Centre now closes at 9:00 p.m.
